When I was in college every other scholarship was gender specific because of initiatives to get women into different fields (especially STEM). Don't complain about being "ineligible" when your gender literally opens you up to MORE scholarship opportunities.

As a D-1 athlete the athletic department has an insurance policy on me. I didn’t have to pay into it so not sure what kind of athlete on scholarship she was.

I believe that it is harder for middle class people to get help with college. They make just enough not to qualify for any help, but not enough to pay it in full. I was very thankful that my husband had VA benefits that help my girls come out of college debt free and my son joined the Air Force, which paid for his.

My step-mom opened up a credit card in my name when I was living with her at 19. I knew absolutely nothing about credit or debt or anything like that and she told me after she did it that she was going to use it to buy my biological father a gift and then she would pay it off so it would help my credit. Instead, she kept it maxed out for a few years and used it on all sorts of different things. After I learned what she did and saw it damaging my credit, I told her she needed to pay it off immediately or else I was going to take her to court. She did thankfully and I closed it, but even now at 27 it’s still on my credit for some reason and shows that it’s maxed out. I’ve tried calling to get it taken off and no one has been able to do anything about it. So now I’m basically stuck with it hurting my credit. I’ll never understand how someone could feel so entitled to do something like that. Especially to your kid.
