Thanks for the analysis! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
There's another factor: People often don't want to spend the time keeping up with their investments, so getting a 401K is one way to offload that to someone else. You're basically hiring them to do a job.
this isn't unrelated to the whole "if you increase taxes on rich people it will hurt the economy" thing. very conveniently it's the people (probably not) paying those taxes who are saying that and they just tell you to trust that it's too complex for you to understand
I have a different opinion, with more people informed in Finance, I feel like the market would be more efficient. More financial products are offered with fair prices, driving better competition to be appeal more to the informed masses. Market trend would be following people's needs rather than what the industry's wants.
Though I suppose the industry would only make more complicated product. So, I guess, I kind of agreeing on what you said…
Then maybe we should change the system so that people can stop being ripped off and screwed over. Seems like everywhere you turn today, people just keep getting screwed, whether it’s by the government, their job, their insurance, etc. Something seriously has got to change, it CANNOT keep going like this, because eventually there will be a moment when a sizable amount of the population bands together, says the hell with all of this and then we have either a French Revolution scenario or worse a Russian revolution scenario. We have seriously got to wake up and do better.

So true, especially with the 401K example.
