You absolutely need to look into the Servicemembers Relief Act benefits, which prevent foreclosures and cap interest rates at 6%. It would make a massive difference.
There is free debt counseling that explains the many benefits in place to keep service members from filing for bankruptcy. She may not know about them, but he needs to look them up ASAP.
There are also free attorneys (JAG offices) on base to assist with legal issues and explain the laws protecting service members. They are service members as well, so they understand the situation.
Tricare covers all expenses, with no copay, as long as they use in-network providers (not always ideal in an emergency). They should factor in the nearest in-network facility whenever they travel.
There is also on base child care assistance (quality varies dramatically, investigate before you do this) that can help as well.
The pay is shit for the military, but there's a ton of programs to help you get by, that he needs to look into so she can utilize them.

Being a military family, they have so many opportunities for assistance. They need to look into SCRA benefits, they could’ve gone through budgeting classes with MilitaryOneSource, so many things. What is she talking about, closing costs? The VA loan should’ve saved them all that crap
