My CAD software's editor has opened subscription and is now charging the perpetual licence a 15% price increase each year ! Subscription is basically a crypto-locker (since it's proprietary data) that you pay each year or month. Even if you want to switch to a different software, you'll have to pay the first one to open your files ! That's brilliant but should fall under the anti-competitive laws, at least in the E-U !
the biggest one they've done is, a battery that runs down so much in about 5 to 7 years but get this, it costs 20k to swap. BINGO JIM! LETS DO IT! They called it Tesla.
BMW was actually going to start doing this in 2023, to unlock features like heated seats. This is after all, one of the reasons why car controls are now being operated from one touchscreen.
But, word got out and it backfired, hugely, hence, they shelved that idea.
But, it was 'shelved' not 'burned'… it will be back…
speaking of "underpants subscriptions" I tried "meundies" like 4 years ago n now i wear nothing but. They are hands down the best quality for the price
I'd have to say that the birth of subscription grew from trying to curb digital piracy. I remember when almost every corner had pirates selling cds of photoshop, windows, movie, music cds, etc. Unfortunately it worked too well and we have this monstrosity.
Soon you wont own your own subscriptions. You will just subscripe to one service that pick subscriptions for you. With different packages for level of luxery.
This is why full automation won't happen. Leaving aside the problems it faces, lets say you solved it. Now the robots have subscriptions that have to be paid regularly. Congratulations, your fully automated worker free factory still has a bunch of salaries, I mean subscriptions, that have to be paid regularly.

When people keeping paying, companies will continue coming up with subscriptions.

Way ahead of you all. I have my oxygen plus subscription. Hope to get enough money to upgrade to filtered oxygen premium plus
If content is being updated, then a subscription is ok. BMW wanted to charge subscriptions for turning on your heated seats. That should be illegal.
We have to rebel at some point against this
That snicker when he said dating apps is hilarious
Security cameras? COLOURING BOOKS?? HOW dumb are u to fall for that?!

This hits too close. All these subscriptions are becoming a scam and we're all forced into many of them.

Vote with your dollar. Dont let the companies think they can do this.

There's a lot of subscriptions on Amazon. Subscription vitamin and mineral tablets = literally a thing.

Tesla’s Autonomous Driving is subscription or one-time payment
What do they call a system without private property again?
Subscription dental one tooth per month until all teeth are replaced or restored. Cancel "any time" but you aren't likely to hehe :/

No competition means they can do whatever they want. Yay for allowing monopoly for fun

I have zero subscription so far, I am actively resisting it. I think it is doable.
You forgot books in general. I think the day that they make me lease my digital photos ive taken on my phone, i will def go mental.

This is absolutely everything wrong with consumerism right there
Can't believe so many modern people are on board with buying weekly meals that you cook yourself.
