Duolingo could elevate its value by offering exclusive rewards for subscribed students excelling in language learning, such as scholarships, travel opportunities, or certifications through its own language exam. It could also transform into a job platform for multilingual learners, collaborating with organizations seeking interns or professionals fluent in multiple languages. These initiatives would position Duolingo as a comprehensive hub for language mastery and career opportunities.
I mean, Duolingo works at first, but if you only rely on the app, you ain't getting that far on your learning process.
It also depends on submerging yourself in the language: reading news, watching series (even with subtitles) and ofc, talking with other students or native speakers
I really like Duolingo such a great app. I did my Spanish tree back in 2012. And decided to do it again a month ago. The lessons are way better, the ads are slightly annoying but it stays reasonable and not a turn-off.
Stopped using this app when I found out peoples personal data was being sold on the dark web. Supposedly it was "hacked".Don't recall them putting any notice out to inform users. These companies are making billions but can't protect peoples data.
Congrats, the commoners just learnt what whales and AB testing is, something basically every single Mobile and regular live service game has done for years.
i hate the bait and switch business model, i did use their app back when it was free then i stopped. my partner used it and got conned out of $100 when they auto renewed his membership for a year without his consent after the trial and then cheap monthly membership. fraud? yes.
The reason I gave up on Duolingo is that the app keeps repeating the same words and phrases too many times and no matter how much time I use the app, I only learn a few words every month. It seemed that the app is not incentivised to help me learn quickly but to keep using the app as much as possible.
The moment I have to pay to use DuoLingo is the day I'll stop using it completely. +3 Years streak so far learning a new language, would drop it today if I had to pay.
They can't get me 😂 no matter how many times that owl has threatened me I still don't go back for months at a time. I don't care about the streak either. Try your worst, owl!

Is there anyone who can explain this question "how does a free educational app manage to have a valuation of $7.7 billion?" to me?

So they are shoveling money into AI to tweak app notifications in order to make money with said app…?
Very good example how old media have no clue what is going on. Duolingo app was nothing new. They became popular thanks to thier marketing
