I have a doubt regarding mutual fund investments and would appreciate a detailed explanation, including examples, if possible. Here's the scenario: Background: • Suppose I started investing in Fund A in 2010 when the total AUM (Assets Under Management) of the fund house was ₹5,000 crore. • Today, after 10 years, the AUM of Fund A has grown to ₹80,000 crore. • I have noticed a trend in the market, when a fund house's AUM becomes very large, the performance of the fund often slows down and might no longer outperform the market. Questions: 1. Should I switch from Fund A to another fund? I have identified Fund B, which currently has an AUM of ₹5,000 crore. Note: I assume that fund A an B are in same sector and type. So all, other details of funds remain same. 2. If switching is advisable, how should I proceed? My concern here is about wealth compounding. For example, once the portfolio crosses a threshold like ₹1 crore, it tends to grow faster due to compounding. What is the best strategy to transition or manage this shift? 3. If staying with Fund A is the better option, why not switch to ETFs or index funds instead? My reasoning is that, in the long term, the performance of most funds tends to converge with the index. Additionally: o Every year, some other mutual fund outperforms the market. o This cycle of outperformance keeps shifting across funds. I’m not looking to chase returns but want to understand the best course of action. I believe the two key factors in mutual funds are time and money invested. The rest, I assume, is largely managed by the market itself.
